Cardano already has seven elected members of the First Constitutional Committee (CC) in history. The voting process ends this week, with preliminary results revealing the names of those who will assume the role of guardians of the Cardano Constitution, marking the end of the transition period after the 2024 Chan update.
Selected ones – to await a final audit, which will be released on Sunday, July 6th – is: Cardano Atlantic Council, Tingvard, East Cardano Council, Which of, Ace Alliance, Cardano Japan Council y Phil_uplc. These people and organizations represent global, diverse communities committed to decentralized governance in ecosystems.
All votes are registered on-chain and audited by Dquadrant. Important aspects such as voter eligibility, vote integrity, and final counts have been examined. Final verification allows governance actions to formalize the new committee on blockchain.
The committee will be replaced on behalf of the Interim Constitutional Committee (ICC), which has served since September 2024 with designated members, including cross-sectional representatives, input and output, Cardano and Emrugo Foundation. These entities have decided not to present themselves in new elections in favor of more open and representative governance.
Initially, votes based on Model 1 ADA = 1 votes were adapted to the system of delegated representatives (DREPs). Between June 10 and July 2, voters were able to select up to seven candidates from 19 applicants, including individuals, consortiums and organizations across the ecosystem.
The CC Election Commission, which consists of the constitutional representatives, ICC and intersecting staff, led the design of the election process. The selection included open forums, multilingual documents, power of attorney rotation strategies, and tools for transparency.
Once the results are ratified by the Block Producers (SPO) and DREP, new members They officially assume their function September 1, 2025. Since then, constitutional oversight is in full hands in the hands of elected representatives by the community.
The guardian of the Cardano Constitution is responsible for reviewing and verifying that each governance action is consistent with the constitutional principles of the ecosystem. They act as neutral judges, interpret the constitution in the case of conflict, ensure the legitimacy of the decision process, and ensure the fundamental values of Cardano and the decentralized, transparent and consistent governance.
This milestone integrates a new phase of Cardano’s governance, as detailed by Cryptootics at the end of last year when it decided to implement this new governance model. It aims to include effective decentralization using clear rules and guardians chosen by your users.
