Alex Yue, co-founder of TapTools, a Cardano-based analytics platform, emphasizes that the Midnight blockchain is an extension of Cardano, not a competition.
This clarification comes amid growing speculation in parts of the Cardano community, with some users portraying Midnight as a direct competitor to the Cardano network. Proponents of this view argue that Midnight has the potential to pull users and liquidity away from the Cardano network.
Additionally, some argue that Midnight’s development suggests that Cardano’s research and development arm, Input Output Global (IOG), may be shifting its focus from Cardano to privacy-oriented blockchains.
Additionally, Yue explained that Midnight extends Cardano’s capabilities by enabling private smart contracts and sensitive data processing without compromising the network’s decentralization.
The attached graph shows how Midnight’s infrastructure synchronizes Cardano block data through dedicated nodes and databases, producing privacy-enhanced blocks and enabling selective disclosure of sensitive information.

Meanwhile, Crypto Crow Show host Jason Appleton echoed similar sentiments, stressing that Midnight is here to complement Cardano, not replace it.
He predicts that when Midnight takes the lead in the privacy space, it will do so within the Cardano ecosystem. Mr. Appleton said those promoting misconceptions about competition are missing this important point.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson also refutes claims that Midnight and Cardano are competing. He recently referred to Midnight as his second child and suggested that Cardano remains his first child.
The privacy-focused blockchain is gearing up for its mainnet launch, scheduled for later this year. Additional details about the privacy sidechain will be announced at the Midnight Summit Hackathon, scheduled for November 17th to 19th.
Last week, Hoskinson also announced plans to launch a weekly podcast dedicated to midnight, titled “Night Shift.”
