Elon Musk’s AI company xAI today announced a partnership with the government of El Salvador to develop the world’s first nationwide AI-powered education program.
The initiative plans to deploy Grok in more than 5,000 public schools over the next two years, serving more than 1 million students.
This program provides learning customized to each student’s pace, preferences, and proficiency level. xAI said the system will serve students from urban centers to rural areas with curriculum-aligned tutoring.
The partnership aims to generate new methodologies, datasets, and frameworks to guide the use of AI in classrooms around the world, with a focus on local context, safety, and human-centered impact. xAI said this initiative will empower thousands of teachers as collaborative partners in education.
President Nayib Boucle said: “El Salvador does not just wait for the future to happen; we build it.” “From setting global standards in security to now pioneering AI-driven education, El Salvador is proving that nations can rise directly to the top through bold policies and strategic vision. With xAI as the leader in frontier models and El Salvador as the guinea pig for innovation, this partnership is destined to deliver some pretty amazing things for all of humanity.”
“By partnering with President Bukele to bring Grok to every student in El Salvador, we are putting cutting-edge AI directly into the hands of an entire generation,” Musk said.
