Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin spoke about the network’s technological development and long-term goals in an evaluation towards 2025.
Buterin noted that there have been significant advances in the Ethereum ecosystem over the past year, highlighting that these developments bring the network one step closer to its vision of becoming the “world’s computer.”
According to Buterin, Ethereum’s gas limit will be increased in 2025, expanding the network’s trading capacity. At the same time, the increase in the number of BLOBs has significantly improved data availability and scalability.
These advances are particularly important for rollups, and Buterin also noted that significant progress has been made in performance in the zkEVM space. These zero-knowledge proof-based technologies play a key role in helping Ethereum achieve both its privacy and scalability goals. However, Buterin said that despite all this progress, Ethereum still has a long way to go.
Rather than following short-term market narratives, Buterin said Ethereum should aim to become the fundamental infrastructure for a freer and more open internet, stressing the need to continue working on ease of use, scalability, and decentralization at both the blockchain and application level. According to him, lasting success depends on developing a balance of these three elements.
