Sentient, a New York-based artificial intelligence company, has introduced Grid, an open source network designed to build and monetize artificial general information (AGI) systems.
The company says the platform aims to provide a decentralized alternative from closed AI markets from companies such as Openai. Developers can plug in AI agents, models, or tools to earn token-based rewards, with royalties and subscriptions available as optional monetization routes.
At the time of its debut, The Grid hosts over 40 AI agents, 50 data sources, and over 10 models, spanning both Web2 and Web3. These include tools such as napkins, generation graphics engines, EXA, search startups, and other blockchain-connected agents, polygons, arbitrums, and more.
Users can access these through sensory chat, an interface for discovering and combining agents into workflows that can handle tasks such as calendar adjustment, code generation, and data visualization.
“The Grid is the world’s largest collection of open source intelligence and an economic rail that enables scaling,” says Himanshu Tyagi, co-founder of Centient.
“This is not just a better app store for AI, it’s about providing the basic infrastructure to make open source AI viable in the long run,” Tyagi added.
An important feature of the grid is its emphasis on interoperability. This platform allows agents to share memory and adjust in real time. It aims to address the challenges in enterprise AI where multiple “assistant” systems often run on silos.
According to Sentient, more than 2 million people have joined the network’s waitlist, with dozens of partners taking part in their debut.
The company’s leadership will form the initiative as an effort to democratize AGI development, ensuring that the community manages and benefits technology rather than focusing control on a small number of private labs.
