Remember the dream of “interoperability” games?
Ubisoft spins a distributed verification network (DVN) to verify crypto assets that are moved or bridged from one blockchain to another.
The company uses Layerzero’s technology, more specifically its codebase and omnichine messaging protocols in its contracts. However, the game studio runs its own clients and nodes for its network.
DVN means that Ubisoft can move NFT and in-game currency from one chain to another, making it available for use in other Ubisoft Crypto games (or external games or platforms). It also makes it easier to make a complete transition from one chain to another if Ubisoft decides to move one of the blockchain games.
Ubisoft can immediately enable cross-chain bridging for fantasy turn-based RPG Champions tactics: Grimoria Chronicles was launched in October 2024 using the Oasys EVM blockchain. Last year – the months when the game begins – Layerzero said he is adding support for Oasys with the end goal of creating Champions tactics.
Now it seems that it is actually possible.
Layerzero technology converts assets in transit to Omnichain NFTS (OnFTS) or Omnichain Fungible Token (OFTS). ONFTS can be an asset like an in-game item, but OFT can be used for in-game currency.
Ubisoft can determine the cost of filling users’ assets, told BlockWorks in an interview with Layerzero Labs CEO and co-founder Bryan Pellegrino. Layerzero Tech creates all the costs ahead of time, so bridging doesn’t require a surprise token.
DVN is intended to be easier to use than traditional crypto bridges. This requires multiple currencies across multiple chains, and is necessary to fill assets according to the chain, from a few minutes to a week.
Pellegrino believes Crypto Gaming is moving to be a “a wider, much more fluid ecosystem,” and enabling more assets to move between chains is a step towards that vision.
I don’t know yet which Chains Ubisoft will support on DVN. However, given that existing upcoming games use Oasys and immutable Zkevm respectively, these could be two options if Ubisoft adds bridging capabilities to their champion tactics. Layerzero currently supports over 130 blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana.
Nicolas Pouard of Ubisoft, vice president of the studio’s strategic innovation lab, previously said their goal was to rely on the chain.
Previously It has been reported Ubisoft’s next Crypto game could be a trading card game (TCG) with Immutable’s Zkevm, Ubisoft and Immutable announcement That they are rebooting power and magic as a crypto TCG.
“In the long run, the goal is that users have no idea about the chain at all. They have no idea about gasoline at all. The wallet is just the dollar being expelled. Everything is abstracted in the backend.” RPCS It’s too long. ”
