
Elon Musk’s AI startup Xai reportedly cut at least 500 people from its data anollation rank on Friday night. The company notified staff via email that the company would scale back its group of generalist AI tutors and turn resources to experts.
An internal note reviewed by Business Insider said, “After a thorough review of human data efforts, we have decided to accelerate the expansion and prioritization of specialized AI tutors.
As part of this change, we no longer need most generalist AI tutor positions, and we conclude that employment at Xai. ”
Employees were told they would continue to pay at the end of the contract or until November 30th. However, access to the corporate system will end on the day you receive the notification.
Xai Slack channels increase by 500
The annotators form the largest unit of Xai and help train Groks by labeling and organizing raw information so that Chatbot can read the context and meaning.
These workers’ main slack channel had over 1,500 members on Friday afternoon. By Friday evening, that count had fallen just over 1,000, and continued to fall as reports continued.
Later on Friday, Xai posted that he was hiring X and plans to expand its cohort of specialized AI tutors at “10x.”

The test notification was posted by Diego Pasini, who said 10 workers had recently taken charge of the team. Pasini asked staff to complete at least one test by the next morning.

Hundreds of Xai employees confused by a sudden test order
